The Tenth Amendment

“THE POWERS NOT DELEGATED TO THE UNITED STATES BY THE CONSTITUTION, NOR PROHIBITED BY IT TO THE STATES, ARE RESERVED TO THE STATES RESPECTIVELY, OR TO THE PEOPLE.”
If that amendment were followed, 90% of the federal government would be disbanded. The Constitution does not authorize wealth redistribution, regulating everything, subsidizing everything, controlling everything, and just plain getting in everyone’s way, slowing everyone down, and being a first rate, expensive, uncontrollable, inefficient pain.
The Constitution doesn’t authorize “Executive Orders” by the President, government ownership of hundreds of millions of acres of land, being involved in education, transportation, housing, and literally thousands of areas into which it has forced itself, “WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED,” as the Declaration of Independence enumerates.
Examination of Washington D.C. real estate is interesting. At one end of Pennsylvania Ave., is the Capitol, and 16 blocks away, is the White House. The Founders placed the executive a mile and a half from the legislative. Next to the White House on one side, is Treasury, and on the other side, is State. The buildings are still there in all their glory, but the original State Department is now filled with bureaucrats having nothing to do with State. Under our 2nd President, Thomas Jefferson, State had but seven employees.
Aren’t we supposed to be following and being controlled by our Constitution? Isn’t that what the Supreme Court, a couple of blocks from the Capitol, is all about? Why isn’t the Constitution’s Tenth Amendment followed? The Supremes dictate every jot and tittle, but ignore the Tenth Amendment! If it did, entire bureaucracies, Cabinet posts and departments such as Education, Transportation, Labor, Housing, Agriculture, and a host of others, which have pummeled us into bankruptcy and submission. The two basic departments in the beginning, were Treasury and State, as illustrated by their locations in respect to the White House.
Washington D.C., is probably the only city in the world with no slums. All of the slums when I was a kid, on 7th St, and Florida Ave. as examples, and now well kept, expensive housing. My old home in the Mt Pleasant Section, which my parents bought for $3300 in 1937, will now go for close to $2 million. If our Constitution were followed, D.C. would be the unemployment capital of the world, with all the bureaucrats and their employees fired. Why not sell all the “Public Lands,” which the government has no deeds or titles to anyway, and pay off the national debt? Private ownership of the national forests, would put them into more efficient, caring, profit making, tax paying hands.
Washington D.C. is the richest place on Earth. It is also a world center for stupidity, theft, wealth redistribution, ineptness, and gobbledygook. The wealth acquired by news people, hangers on, lobbyists, suppliers, and political groupies, is unearned, undeserved, and a disgrace. Want to ‘Make America Great Again,” as Donald Trump is urging? The simple answer is in the 28 simple words in our beloved, but seemingly forgotten, Constitution.
