Far too many people think that government GIVES freedom, rather than taking it from us, as is the case. I love the 4th of July, with all the red, white and blue decorations, fireworks, and patriotism everywhere. The 4th of July, is a celebration of 1776, when the Founders read the birth of freedom from Britain document, The Declaration of Independence. This document took away taxation, harassment, and a lack of freedom from Britain, and continued the fight for freedom FROM government, not partaking of it, as a gift from government.
Government is a cancer, growing un-checked. Government bureaucrats have at least two main goals. (1) Increase their power base by expanding the bureaucracy, so they will rise in importance and wages, leaving the newcomers under them, and (2) make themselves appear to be necessary and indispensible, which is the opposite of freedom. Each year, hundreds and thousands of rules and laws are passed and enforced by bureaucracy, without a vote of Congress, and acting as judge and juror, removing our freedoms. President Donald Trump, so far in his second term, has signed 219 Executive Orders, most of which, in some form or other, destroys freedom and increases the size of government. A businessman increases his wealth and importance, by increasing his efficiency, whereas a bureaucrat operates exactly the opposite. Bureaucracy expands and perpetuates itself, at the expense of efficiency, economy, proof of necessity or desirability, and results in less freedom, many times in absurdity, but always increasing the size and debt of the federal government.
Our system of government lets voters decide who will represent them. Originally, in order to be able to vote, you had to be able to read and write. Voting was intended to be a privilege, not a duty. Of late, it has become a devout belief, that voting is some sort of sacred, patriotic act, which must be performed. Voting is not desirable, if you are stupid, illiterate, or unread. If the ignoramuses didn’t vote, it would be a service to our country, because they always vote for the candidate promising the most from the public treasury, guaranteeing eventual bankruptcy and the worst office holders, a-la Biden, Obama, and Pelosi.
How is America helped by an ever larger proportion of voters being of the lower class? How is America aided by college kids invading the slums, getting people registered to vote? Their vote always cancels out the vote of an intelligent voter, who would vote for a candidate against ever more government spending, reducing bureaucracy and balancing the federal budget, thereby reducing inflation. When there was a poll tax, it meant that In order to vote, the citizen was required to pay a dollar or so, to defray the election’s cost. A pittance, which generally weeded out the non-beneficial votes and voters. The Supreme Court threw out poll taxes on May 24th, 1966. The “Voter Rights Act,” was passed in 1965, at the urging of Martin Luther King Jr., and on February 22nd, it became un-necessary to be able to read and write in order to vote. Has there ever been a more destructive law passed?
I would prefer that no one could vote, unless they had a job, could read and write, and knew something about what they were voting for or against. Our republic, mistakenly called a ‘democracy,’ has a federal debt of over $37 trillion dollars, and a huge majority of it was caused by politicians voting handouts of unbelievable varieties, which politicians were elected by moronic voters, who were generally members of the Democratic Party.
The Revolutionary War Debt
At the end of that war, which freed the new United States from being enslaved by Britain, there were debts of $400 million, and the new nation, believe it or not, had that debt paid in full by 1835, 33 years after the Constitution was signed. If you’ve ever heard the phrase, “Not worth a continental,” that was the name of the money which was printed, and obviously backed by only good intentions. The currency, like the current U.S. dollar, being backed by nothing, quickly lost its value, but it did work for a while. Like the current dollar, those 225 years ago, who saved in ‘continentals,’ lost everything. Paper money, backed by good intentions and promises, have never survived.
The second thing our Founders did was to enact tariffs on all imported goods, which was a big help.
Thirdly, a domestic tax was levied on goods, services and whiskey. The whiskey tax, was vehemently protested, and many refused to pay. George Washington took troops to Western Pennsylvania in 1794; stopped the violence, and prosecuted the violators. The whiskey tax won.
Fourth, A lottery was established, which helped a bit.
Fifth, a ‘sinking fund’ was established, which set aside a certain amount of money collected, to repay the debt. 33 years later, the debt was paid in full!
This goes to show that our Founders, had passed ‘economics 101,’ and were like you and I, I hope, and had no debts after the war had been paid for in full. Freedom is not given by government and bureaucracy, but ravaged by them. If voters are self registered, they will prove themselves to be good citizens. If it takes coercion, college kids urging, and even bribes to get registered, they are not worth the privilege. I shudder at our current events.
