At my Kiwanis Club Thursday, we had the best speaker I have ever heard. He is a psychiatrist, and he is probably the first of such that I didn’t think was nuts. He spoke about alcoholism and drug addiction, but primarily alcohol. He said that alcoholics are born with it, and it is inherited from parents. This is merely a brief explanation of his thoughts on the subject. He is one, but doesn’t drink. Alcoholics are not drunks, but can be. They are susceptible to alcohol because of their parents being alcoholics, and they have no control over it. His solution? Go to AA. He gave stats about the tremendous number of traffic accidents and fatalities caused by alcoholism. They black out with no warning, and can’t remember afterward what happened, even if they weren’t drinking at the time. Scary. I used to think that Teddy Kennedy took so long to report the accident because that’s how long it takes to get a naked woman dressed under six feet of water! Maybe had a blackout?
Then he went into depression, which he says is caused by inward frustration and anger. Most shrinks give patients drugs for this, and he ran over the whole list of them. Not him. He said that the way to treat depression is to remove the cause. Unhappy with your job? Quit it and take a job you like. Unhappy with something? Don’t take drugs to cover it up. Solve the problem by removing the cause of your frustration or anger. Talk to a counselor, but don’t take drugs to mask the problem. Imagine a psychiatrist speaking like that! He is perhaps one of the most brilliant speakers I have ever heard. He was vociferous against giving kids drugs of any kind for supposed personality disorders.
My best to you souls in Florida who have once again suffered terrible carnage from Mother Nature. Is the warm temperature worth it? I mean hurricane after hurricane and now tornados? I have just passed my sixth year of writing for Gold Eagle, and I still am very popular according to Gold Eagle’s owner, so I guess I’ll keep on doing it. Earth warming? I don’t think so. Wasn’t it about 40 years ago that the experts said that we were going into another ice age? In my small town, we have had a severe winter. More severe than any native can remember. Now the UN and one worlders want to make capital punishment illegal throughout the world. Also to make it a crime with jail time for anyone who thinks the holocaust may be grossly exaggerated, as do I. Take me away. See why America should not be part of the UN, be neutral, and stay home and mind our own business? Why not take the troops from Iraq and everywhere else in the world and make their last tour of duty to patrol the Mexican border with orders to shoot to kill any trespassers, after due warnings? Have a great weekend, and no I don’t think there will be a pullback in metals, because they have built a solid base, but then I have no crystal ball. Noticed that Al Roker is as fat as ever, even after that stomach operation?
