The old expression, “There’s Nothing New Under The Sun,” is partially true. Actually, there’s plenty which is ’new’ under the sun, since that phrase was coined a couple of thousand years ago in the Bible, at Ecclesiastes 1:9. Much, much, new, but at the same time, nothing new, at least in certain fields. We all know about electricity, airplanes, telephones, computers, cars, trains, drilling for oil and gas, and modern conveniences of all kinds and types. More power to modern inventions! But, in at least one very important field, despite modern inventions, and maybe even because of them, there is nothing new.
I mean, of course, the lust for power, corruption, power grabbing, payoff, bribe, and war making of politicians and people in authority, whether seized or voted into office. In the time of Ecclesiastes, written by King Solomon, son of King David, it might as well have been written today, as far as the corruption of those two is concerned. David cheated on his wife, and had a sensuous affair with Bathsheba, who became pregnant, and who happened to be married to Uriah. Not to let that stand in David’s way, he had Uriah killed, and he married Bathsheba, who was among his 13 wives and concubines, who bore him countless children. It was Bathsheba’s son Solomon, who had the well known thousand wives and concubines. In the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament), what we today call ’bigamy’ or ’immorality,’ didn’t exist then. Multiple wives and mass killings were common then, as were crooked governments. Down through the ages, be they Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, Anglo-Saxon, and now America, few, if any governments and politicians, were or are honest and cared for the people they represented or governed. Nero fiddled while he burned Rome, and hundreds of gross, almost unprintable atrocities have been committed by various governments down through the ages. There is something about holding a public office, and the grandeur, power and adoration that goes with it, that seems to be unavoidable.
The powers that be, right here in America, are guilty of the most egregious actions and practices. Republican or Democrat. Bill Clinton had a sexual thing going on under the desk in the Executive Office. Bill and Hillary had lots of under-the-table, crooked deals at Whitewater. Ronnie Reagan, probably the best President in modern times, would never have made it to the White House, if George Bush 41 had anything to say about it, or Bob Dole either. The Republican ’establishment,’ is loaded with old time power loving imbeciles, who want to keep on printing unbacked dollars, spending foolishly, starting wars, and enlarging government at the expense of us, the citizenry, who suffer so much. America has been dulled down so much, that when a TV reporter does interviews, even with college students, most are total know-nothings, who can’t name a single Senator, Representative, or even the Vice President! And they are going to vote for the next President?
Currently, the third largest bureaucracy, the Department of Homeland Security, with a $39 billion annual budget, has stocked itself with millions of rounds of ammo and guns, and they refuse an explanation. Its Inspector General, is totally corrupt, a liar, and has been found to leak actions prematurely, buddy up with and have drinks with those whom he is supposed to be at a distance from, and typical of most bureaucrats, people in high office, and those with power over us poor saps who pay through the nose to support their lush ways, they could care less about those over who they are supposed to protect, and look out for themselves only. When people cross that beltway in D.C., their entire mind, disposition, and outlook undergoes a radical change, in 99% of the time. They become monsters. Is there any reason why Harry Reid should not be recalled? Come on Nevadans, get on the ball, and get rid of that creep!
Currently, the President is following previous Presidents in flirting with war. Sending troops into Poland, guns and rockets to the Syrian rebels, and even getting between China and Japan over a couple of unoccupied islands. Ukraine is none of our business, but Putin is enjoying a tremendous popularity, even though his economy is in a shambles. The Russian media, only reports propaganda, which of course has tremendously influenced Russian attitudes. Gee Dad! That sounds like NBC, ABC, CBS, and CNN, doesn’t it? Russia has had her financial rating reduced to a hair above “junk,” and it is said that $75 billion has left Russia since the Crimea takeover. This may dissuade Putin from proceeding into Ukraine. The Russian citizens on the street, probably know nothing about its sorry financial straits, any more than Americans know how dire are America’s financial condition. Ignorance pervades throughout the world. How sad!
George Bush got us into Iraq, and Afghanistan, with no earthly, or logical reason, and the Congress gave its permission, which of course violated the Constitution, by not officially declaring war. Truman got us into Korea, and LBJ ran Vietnam from the ’Ready Room’ of the White House, costing America 59,000 lives and countless thousands and tens of thousands of injuries. What for? Why was there a war in Korea? Why is it still not over? There are sill tens of thousands of American troops guarding the North – South Korean border, but none guarding the U.S.- Mexican border. FDR goaded Japan into bombing us, and after promising ’no war’ in his campaign, got us into history’s worst war, with tens of millions dead and hundreds of millions wounded or crippled for life. Then, stupid politicians, under “The Marshall Plan,” rebuilt our former enemies’ factories and steel mills, while ours were totally worn out from fighting those enemies! The ’Marshall Plan” has been hailed as wonderful, whereas it was totally idiotic.
Dishonest Abe Lincoln, got us into the War Between the States, supposedly to stop slavery, but in reality to have America governed by a huge, all powerful central government. Importing slaves was outlawed in 1808, and by the time he re-supplied Ft. Sumter, after having been warned countless times not to do it, starting that vicious war, slaves were going for $1500 in gold, and no one could afford them anyway. Slavery would have automatically been pointless, with the coming of the industrial revolution 15 years later. That war, was was an atrocity, and inexcusable. Before that, Alexander Hamilton had the same desire for a big government, and an early day Federal Reserve. Fortunately it was vetoed by Andrew Jackson. It was also fortunate that Aaron Burr killed Hamilton in a duel. What a disaster Hamilton was!
It is true that even though America is in bad shape, thanks to Democrats and Obama, every other place is worse. Even Bundy made a total ass of himself, with his tasteless, vulgar remarks about blacks. What a fool! No matter, all I can do is urge you to get out of the big cities, get guns, gold and silver. Living in a small town, gives on a wonderful sense of security, and the guns, gold, and silver, are even more comforting. “Passing through your wonderful mountains and canyons, I realize that this state is going to be more and more, the playground for the entire Republic. This is the real Switzerland of America.” Theodore Roosevelt, on a visit to Colorado in 1905.
